从oxygen(氧元素)中文译名的演变看科技译名被接受的条件

How a Translated Term Was Accepted : Case Study of the Chinese Name Evolution for Oxygen

摘要: 元素oxygen的中文译名,大致经历了从“养气”,经“养”“”“”“氱”,最后到“氧”的变化过程。科技译名能否被普遍接受,受到以下几个条件制约:是否符合汉语规律;是否符合科学性和系统性;是否简单、明了;是否由权威译名工作组织认可和推行。

Abstract: The Chinese name for oxygen was yangqi (“养气”) at first, then from suan(“”),yang (“养”), yang(“”) to yang(“氱”), at last yang (“氧”). Whether a translated term is generally accepted, the important factors are as the following: whether to comply with Chinese regulations; whether to compliance with the scientific and systematic characteristics; whether it is simple and straightforward; whether it is certificated and popularize by the authoritative institution.
