China Based Discourse Construction of Discipline History form the Perspective of Terminology

Abstract:

Based on the field of humanities and social sciences in China, the discourse of disciplinary history takes recording the origin and development of local disciplinary knowledge in China as the key task, which can be said to be the foundation for establishing the identity and local value of the Chinese language discipline. Against the background of consistent inflows of Western learning, Chinese disciplines in the field of Chinese humanities and social sciences have successively gone through the phase of independent knowledge production and that of Sino-Western knowledge contact and contest, which obviously don’t parallel the route of Western discipline development. The formation and development of each Chinese discipline is attended by the diversification and systematization of Chinese terms. Tracing down the origin of indigenous terminological resources and the inflows of translated ones is a reliable way to sketch the history of the discipline. And the mining and inheritance of traditional Chinese terminology heritage in various disciplines is instrumental in the construction of the discourse on Chinese discipline history.
