Abstract: This thesis explores the translation strategies that pertain to translating ancient Chinese military terms from Chinese into English. Based on the descriptive analysis of respective translations of military terms as culturespecific items and special terms in the four English versions of The Art of War, the thesis contends that the combination of repetition and orthographic adaptation and linguistic translation as well as extratextual gloss and intratextual gloss should be adopted as an approach for our reference.
