English Translation of the Terms of Five Elements and Five Zang-organs Based on Analogism

Abstract:

Analogism is one of the essential methods of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and exerts a great influence upon the construction of TCM theory system and clinical practice. The construction of the model between the five elements and five zang-organs in TCM theory is based on analogy methods. Combined with the translation research of modern conceptual metaphor, this paper discusses the analogy methods, takes the related terminology of five elements and five zang-organs as an example, and then analyzes the English translation of the terms on the five elements and five zang-organs, which aims to provide new thoughts for the translation of TCM term metaphor.
