Abstract: This article examines the problem whether the term “kexue(science)” has appeared in Chinese literatures before “western culture spreading in the east”. The author finds that, the view that CHEN Liang in the Southern Song Dynasty has used the word “kexue” in his article in lemma “science” of Great Dictionary of Chinese or some scholars articles is mistaken.
