Ethnopragmatics and the Chinese Translation: A Discussion Based on Its Methodology

Abstract: Ethnopragmatics, as a new perspective of pragmatics against the traditional universalism, aims to study the pragmatic rules of a particular culture from the insiders’ view. In introducing this new progress of pragmatics into China, Chinese scholars have translated the term in several different ways. This article intends to compare these translations and tentatively propose a more faithful translation through reviewing the theoretical foundation and methodology of ethnopragmatics.
