The Transformation and Nomenclature of the Chinese Name for Ephedrine

Abstract: From 1920s, ephedrine became the one of the most important drug in the modernization of traditional Chinese medicine in China. Because the early researchers have published in foreign languages, there were kinds of transcription names and free translation names of ephedrine when it was introduced from different translators. As two main translated names, mahuangjian and mahuangsu have been coexisted to this day after two times of the work of official term standardization. This transformation of the term is a vivid case to find various influences and impacts depended on different translators in the translation process of modern indigenization of science terms.
