Abstract:

Chinese character scholars have proposed several important concepts such as “偏旁、字素、字符、构件、形素、部件” based on their respective understanding of the “basic element” in modern Chinese character structure system. There are differences, intersections and overlaps among the connotations of these multilayered concepts. Meanwhile, these concepts can be partially integrated, and this paper suggests that “部件” be used as the main one.
