Abstract:

A polyphonic character is a kind of character that has more than one pronunciation in the Chinese language, with different pronunciation corresponding with different meanings. This paper briefly introduces the research situation of polyphonic characters in scientific terms, analyzes several causes and characteristics of polyphonic characters in scientific terms with examples, and expounds that the standardization of pronunciation is very important for the standardization of terminology. To clarify the pronunciations of polyphonic characters in scientific terms is helpful to understand the concepts of the terms, which is great helpful to communicate efficiently and accurately, as well as to promote the popularization and application of standardized terms.
