Abstract: The same Chinese translation for both Cross-cultural communication and Intercultural Communication has been confusing since it was firstly introduced 30 years ago. In fact, both the terms and their studying focuses are different, though there are some similarities between them. In order to avoid further confusion or clarify the confusion of the two interchangeable terms in Chinese translation, this paper suggests a new translation of “Intercultural Communication” as “Kua Wen Hua Hu Ji Xue” based on the analysis of both “Cross-cultural Communication” and “Intercultural Communication” in their word meanings.

Key words: cross-cultural, intercultural, communication, Chinese translation
