Abstract:

“Zero report”is a critical term in public health, indicating that no cases of specified diseases occurred during a reporting period. However, its Chinese translation “零报告”(líng bàogào) is often misinterpreted as “no report”or “lack of report”in communication. This paper examines the semantic differences between “zero”and “零”and analyzes the rationale behind the current Chinese translation of “zero report”.Improvement suggestions are also proposed to facilitate better understanding and circulation of this term.Furthermore, recommendations are offered for the standardization of terminology translation from a communication studies perspective, aiming to contribute to both the practical application and theoretical research of terminology translation standardization in China.
