Abstract:

China’s international exchange activities in occupational safety are on the rise. When introducing best practices of safety management from other countries, a translator should be as precise as possible. Translation involves a good number of terms, such as organization names and job titles, and when a term is mistranslated, the translation activity fails to serve its intended purpose. This paper points out three types of problems in translating terms in the field of occupational safety and discusses the reasons behind them. We think that when translating a term, translators must consult authoritative information sources, fully understand the exact meaning of that term, and learn to use the tools available so as to produce a translation that is consistent with norms.
