Abstract: It is found that“××门” has become a suffix with great wordforming ability after undergoing an evolvement of specialization,apperception and generalization.This paper probes into its four aspects,namely its origin,evolvement,cognition and translation.It is not necessary to translate the phrases formed with “gate” into“……丑闻”,we just put them into“××门”,which embodies the principle of economy in a language.
