Abstract: It is found that“××门” has become a suffix with great wordforming ability after undergoing an evolvement of specialization,apperception and generalization.This paper probes into its four aspects,namely its origin,evolvement,cognition and translation.It is not necessary to translate the phrases formed with “gate” into“……丑闻”,we just put them into“××门”,which embodies the principle of economy in a language.
