Abstract: The concept of “jingluo经络”is unique in TCM and there exits no equivalence in English. It has been translated literally into “meridian and collateral” and freely into “channel and collateral”. For the unification of the translation of TCM Term ,this paper probes into the connotation and original naming of it and compares both versions in the light of functional translation theories. It is concluded that the literal translation “meridian and collateral” is more nearly accurate, as it conveys the original meaning more efficiently, bears greater resemblance to ST in structure, and is more likely to be understood and accepted by the target readers.

Key words: TCM Term, meridian and collateral, channel and collateral, translation
