Abstract:

Adopting descriptive and interpretive approaches, and from both synchronic and diachronic perspectives, the paper aims to have a contrastive study and also a relevant theoretical analysis on traditional Chinese and western agricultural terminologies. Due to the objective commonalities between traditional Chinese and western agriculture in terms of agricultural activities and development stages, as well as the exchange of agricultural cultures between China and the west, there are certain similarities between traditional Chinese and western agricultural terminologies, but the differences are more significant. Based on comparing the two from the dimensions of terminological ontology, conceptual interpretation, and qualitative representation, we restore the historical context, conduct an explanatory discussion on the reasons for the emergence of the relevant differences, and summarize their revelation for the present.
