Abstract: The fundamental difference between relative chronology and absolute chronology is not the precision of time but the reference points. The reference point of absolute chronology may be a time point or time zone which is specifically known; however, the reference point of relative chronology must be a time point or time zone which is not known by now.

Key words: relative chronology, absolute chronology, reference points
