Is Valence Grammar Identical to Dependency Grammar?

Abstract: Based on the relations between “valence grammar” and “dependency grammar”, the paper discusses the differences between linguistic terms “valency” and “dependency” from the perspectives of origin, connotation, essence, type and application scope. To avoid misunderstanding, the author suggested that lexicographers, esp. specialized dictionary compilers, should keep to the tradition of western lexicographers and be cautious in using notational expressions like “also called” or other similar remarks.
