Abstract:

Marie-Claude L’Homme is a leading figure in the Quebec school of Terminology. She foundthat the use of specialized corpora leads to a recognition of the key role predicative units (verbs, adjectives and many nouns) playing in the expression and organization of specialized knowledge. However, the models traditionally used in terminology doesn’t lend itself to capturing the properties of predicative units adequately. In this excerpt, she reviews a selection of works in the area and discusses how they aim at unveiling the contribution of predicative terms to the expression of specialized knowledge, and combines with a proper way to describe and represent predicative lexical units.

Key words: predicative lexical unit, terminology, verb, argument structure, lexical relation
