Abstract: This article is a general survey of the theory and practice of Chinese and foreign names translation.It mentions that the historical name Charlemagne was inappropriately translated in some Chinese-language publications.The author suggests that certain translation rules needed to be followed by translators.This article also presents a brief literature review of the Dictionaries of Names compiled in China.
