Reflecting on the Chinese Translation of Stakeholder in the Context of Engineering Ethics

Abstract:

This article reviews on the naming of “stakeholder” within the context of engineering ethics,arguing that the focus of naming lies in “benefits and risks”,and that “stakeholder” is a more comprehensive,precise,and resilient expression.This clarification has multiple significance:firstly,it promotes a holistic and systematic consideration of the rights and risks of all affected parties in the project;secondly,it highlights attention to potential negative impacts of the project,urging more responsible actions,and adhering to engineering ethics;thirdly,it facilitates interdisciplinary and inter-departmental collaboration;fourthly,it enhances social acceptance and public satisfaction with engineering projects,avoiding the NIMBY effect.
