The UMLS and Its Reference to Standardize Chinese Medical Terminologies

Abstract

Abstract: Having been developed for over two decades by U.S.National Institute of Health,with its 17 linguistic versions,the Unified Medical Language System (UMLS) has become the most universal medical terminology system.It includes the Metathesaurus,Semantic Network,SPECIALIST lexicon and associate lexicon program,supporting software tools.The UMLS provides convenience for literature retrieval and the implementation of the national electronic medical record.
