Abstract: Tian Yan Lun is the first well-known masterpiece translated by Yan Fu. The translated terms in Tian Yan Lun serve as an important embodiment of his translation thoughts, especially on terminology translation. Based on analyzing the Chinese and Western-language terms in Tian Yan Lun (Yan Fu's version of Evolution and Ethics),we examine how these terms were created and selected, and hope to draw lessons from them. The whole study aims to standardize terminology by using historical reference.
