Abstract:

The paper deals with the position of term in the terminology and the position of terminology in the lexical system of special language. From a more macroscopic point of view, the paper demonstrates the systematic problem of vocabulary, and systematically points out the positive and negative aspects to the problem above. This article holds that a word has both meaning and value. The foundation of the lexical system is the lexical valence rather than the meaning of the word, and the lexical system is a network of complex relations among words in system. The article emphasizes that terminology is a specific part of the vocabulary system. Terminology in the same subject or field inherits all the features of the lexical system, and also has higher level of systematicness.

Key words: lexical system, meaning, value, term, terminology
