Abstract: It is generally acknowledged that to avoid inexplicit perceptions and possible ambiguities, the EST (English for Science and Technology) style often attaches great importance to accuracy, clarity and objectivity in its expressions. Likewise, in the process of translating technical terms, it is also essential to render accuracy, rigidity as well as the scientific and logic nature of corresponding translated terms in expressions. That is, the EST translation also strives for clarity and authenticity by avoiding ambiguity in its expressions. Practically, however, in terms of conceptual expression, corresponding translated terms of EST terminology may not necessarily achieve absolute equivalence in the process of rendering into another language. Therefore, corresponding fuzzy approaches are also required to reproduce semantic connotations of the original text in translating technical terms under certain circumstances.
Key words: terminology, fuzziness, translation, equivalence
