Abstract: The Chinese word “qingshaonian” is commonly used in the academic literature and public media. Since it is the combined spelling of “qingnian” which is referred to young adults, and “shaonian” which is referred to adolescents, it is often quite vague in distinguishing a man called “qingshaonian” into “adults” or “minors”. It is necessary to use “shaonian”, which is clearly defined as minors (children) with ages of 13 to 18 years, as Chinese translation of “adolescents”.

Key words: adolescent, young adult, adults, minors
