Abstract: In the paper,we take clay, lagoon and Tangka as examples to analyze their right and error in geo-science academic writings. The reason on inaccurate uses were discussed by casting back their history and reading authoritative reference books to discriminate the authenticity of the three words. We consider that: (1)黏土(clay)should be read as “niántǔ” should not be written as 粘土 or other pronunciation; (2) 潟湖(lagoon) should be read as “xìhú”, not “xièhú”, and its the old pronunciation “xièhú” should be eliminated; (3) 疍民(Tangka)undertake the function to express the residents on water, who take ship as home and engage in fishing or shipping, and 疍民 should not be written as蛋民.
