Abstract: Transliteration, which is pronunciation simulation from the source language, plays an important role in the naturalization of loanwords. However, transliteration is never as simple as a sound-for-sound simulation. Every language has its own natural rhythm, so transliteration needs to naturalize the rhythmic pattern of the source language. Based on the analysis of the differences between English and Chinese syllable structure, foot structure and rhythm pattern from the perspective of prosody, we discuss the transliteration legitimacy of word syllable and the phoneme on transliterating words selection. We also put forward the transliteration standard for reference.

Key words: transliteration, loanword, prosodic word, syllable, foot
