摘要： 文章论证表述机械的变速和换向动作时应该使用"换挡"一词,而不应采用"换档",设想"挡"是英语down[daun]的谐音,并对机械变速和换向装置叫"排档"或"排挡"的来由,提出两种设想。

Abstract: “Huàndǎng” but not “huàndàng” should be used when mechanical gearshift is mentioned. The pronunciation of “dǎng” comes from that of the word of down.Two assumptions are put forward about the origin of the word“páidàng”or “páidǎng”,which is the Chinese name of the mechanical gearshift.
