Abstract: In the evolution of terminology theory, the descriptive shift puts terminology back to its practical orientation and provides the context in which the terminological competence is explored. The cognitive shift further highlights the distributed-ness of terminological resources, while the terminological competence could be redefined as the ability to alternate among them. The theory of distributed cognition, in turn, provides a plausible framework for terminology teaching design.
