Abstract:

Being an important component of global-going Chinese culture, scientific and technological classics is a crucial approach to spread Chinese technology and culture. In order to grasp the current situation and characteristics of China’s research on English translation of scientific and technological classics, and to objectively reflect the influence of various scholars and publishing institutions in this field, using VOS Viewer, CiteSpace, Voyant Tools and Python as the visualization analysis tools of digital humanities, this paper draws a knowledge map to analyze authors and institutions, theme, hot spot, trend and distribution of the research literature published in CNKI from 2000 to 2023. Our findings are as follows: Chinas research on English translation of scientific and technological classics can be divided into germination, surge and steady increase stages; the most published author is Yan Zhang, and the leading institution is Nanjing University of Traditional Chinese Medicine; the research mainly focuses on the themes of translation strategy, Yellow Emperors Internal Canon, Tea Sutra and translation introduction; the number of research on medical classics and agronomy classics is the largest, and there are still 67% of the classics in English translation that have not been involved by scholars. We proposed that in order to further promote the research on English translation of scientific and technological classics to move forward, we should expand the research scenario, focus on diversified texts, fully integrate the genre canonical books, strengthen collaborative research and emphasize the importance of methodological innovation.
