Abstract:

Standardizing the translation of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) terminology is crucial for the dissemination and promotion of TCM culture.Huangdi Neijing (hereinafter referred to as Neijing) contains numerous instances of polysemy, particularly in its references to the term “Shen”.The connotations of “Shen”are extensive, encompassing both TCM-specific meanings and religious interpretations.Within TCM,“Shen”can be understood in both broad and narrow senses.Due to the varying implications of “Shen”,a unified and standardized English translation has yet to be established.By exploring strategies for translating “Shen”into English,it is imperative to consider the context and the cultural differences between ancient and modern times throughout the translation process.
