Abstract:

This study systematically reviewed and comparatively analyzed existing domestic and international TCM terminology standards and norms, identifying the following main issues with the English translation of bowel movement symptom terminology:(1) deviation in the understanding of term meanings;(2) omission of essential elements within the terms;(3) mechanical word-for-word translation;(4) potential ambiguity in the translated text. These issues have created obstacles for scientific research teaching, clinical practice, and international academic communication.Taking the terminology related to urination and defecation as an example, this article delves into the various existing problems and proposes corresponding strategies, including establishing multidisciplinary collaboration mechanisms, deepening the research on term connotations, adopting flexible translation strategies, and strengthening international cooperation.
