Abstract: Missionaries paid attention to terminology unification and began to practice in the late Qing Dynasty. As non-governmental organizations, School and Text-book Series Committee, the General Committee for Medical Nomenclature and the General Committee for Scientific Terminology made great impact on the approval and unification of biology terms. As government, Ministry of Education in late Qing Dynasty and National Institute for Compilation and Translation of the Republic of China participated or led this work in different time. The Science Society of China and other scientific societies played important role. For unification of biology terms, both the development of biology and the involvement of government were essential factors.
