Abstract:

With the increasingly close and frequent exchanges across the Taiwan Strait, it is particularly important to enhance communication and mutual learning in terminology research across the Taiwan Strait. This article offers a detailed and comprehensive examination of the organizational framework, historical evolution, and existing accomplishments in terminology development in Taiwan. It also delves into collaborative initiatives in compiling terminology resources across the strait, including the NAER Web of Words terminology search platform and the jointly established Chinese-linguipedia and other linguistic databases. Furthermore, it conducts a sampling analysis of people in Taiwan’s research topics related to terminology in the Web of Science Core Collection database and visually showcases the annual publication output, publishing institutions, academic disciplines, and keyword clustering using the bibliometric tool VOSviewer, unveiling the developmental patterns and trending topics in this field. The primary objective is to furnish educational resources and pathways for numerous terminology researchers and language enthusiasts on both sides of the strait, fostering a deeper comprehension of Taiwan’s terminology efforts and highlighting the similarities and differences in terminology construction between both sides of the strait. This endeavor aims to enhance communication and collaboration among scholars from both sides, guiding future joint endeavors and providing essential insights and backing for terminology development and the formulation of science and technology strategies in the forthcoming years.
