Abstract:

Based on a review of the current status and problems of term translation research,we examine the impact of Large Language Models (LLMs) on both the practical and theoretical exploration of term translation.We found that,due to the speciality of terminology,current term translation research primarily focuses on practical studies of discipline-specific term translation and lacks comprehensive and systematic investigations into the construction of term system and theory of term translation.We think LLMs optimizes multilingual term translation,management and retrieval,promotes the in-depth development of term system and theory of term translation,and provides new theoretical perspectives on term translation research.In the future,researchers should fully utilize LLMs and integrate term translation with theories from other disciplines,concentrating on the essential attributes and key characteristics of term translation,so as to steer the research toward the ontology of term translation.
