On Direct and Indirect Methods of Terminology Translation

Abstract

Abstract: It is a hot topic whether to choose literal translation or free translation in terminology translation. In terms of the shortcut and semantic transparency in terminology translation, literal translation is a direct method while free translation an indirect method. According to term's sound, form, meaning and pragmatic, this paper conclude that literal translation and free translation have many translating means and skills, which are dynamically unified for term translating methodologies on the basis of literal translation
