Abstract: “dianshang” as the abbreviation of “dianzishangwu” appeared on the media frequently. Researchers believe that the meaning of “dianshang” is not clear and cannot be used as the abbreviation of “dianzishangwu”. In fact, as the rule of abbreviation is complex and the reason of abbreviating is diverse, people's understanding of morpheme meaning may change with the development of social life. However, if the original words lack the core morpheme with tips for the meaning of words, the abbreviating mechanism can also rely on voice to promote words. To evaluate the standardization of abbreviations, we should pay special attention to the internal basic rules of language structure, and cannot ignore people's pragmatic choice. Therefore, “dianzishangwu” short for “dianshang” may be acceptable.
