Based on tracing the risen and development of terminology research in China, the paper proposed that the research of terminology in China has gone through three historical periods: (1) the exploration of terminology translation theory, (2) the study of terminology ontology, and (3) the comprehensive development of the theory system. The paper also focuses on the characteristics in terminology research, and describes its development process and development status on the theoretical research and applied research. The theoretical research of terminology originated from the demand of terminology standardization, and enriched practical activities through the guidance of terminology theory. In the field of applied research, the theory of terminology is combined with the national conditions of China, widely applied to the practice of standardizing terms, and gradually deepened into the fields of news publishing, foreign language translation, dictionary compilation, etc., achieving great achievements.

This paper introduces a method to extract terms of Chinese teaching as a foreign language. We take the text in the field of Chinese teaching as a foreign language as the target text, follow the principles of subject orientation, scientific corpus, and limited sample representation to establish a specialized corpus, and process it such as word segmentation and POS tagging. We combine statistical and linguistic rules, use the C-value method to calculate the term degree value, and explore the “hybrid solution” to find, define and extract terms of different lengths in this field. Finally a terminology base for Chinese teaching as a foreign language is established, including 238 single word terms, 375 two word terms, 121 three word terms, and 50 long terms (consisting of 4-6 words).

Since the outbreak of COVID-19 more than three years ago, many names of COVID-19 have emerged in China and abroad. In China, names like novel coronavirus pneumonia(NCP), novel coronavirus infection, etc. were used; while in abroad, WHO named the coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19), and proposed the post COVID-19 condition, and also other common names like long covid, post covid syndrome, sequelae of covid-19, etc.. Through discrimination and analysis, we put forward that coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19) and post COVID-19 condition proposed by WHO should be used in a unified manner. According to the related requirements of terminology, we put forward suggestions on standard terms for further examination and approval of the name of COVID-19 and its symptoms.

The article aims to compare theoretical and empirical terms from a linguistic perspective, revealing the characteristics of theoretical and empirical terms in the terminology. Theoricity is a hierarchical attribute, and a term can be more or less theoretical, even the minimum degree of its theoricity means it is not entirely empirical. Empiricism of a term implies its perception and assimilation through any non-verbal (verbal) assimilation and explanation of it. These provisions cover terminology of various sciences and fields of knowledge, including the humanities.

Since the 1960s, paradigm has been widely used in philosophy and social sciences to refer to viewpoints, perspectives and conceptual systems in the scientific community. The term Paradigm was first put forward by Kuhn, an American scholar, and has a strong inclusive and theoretical explanatory power. After the term was integrated into the humanities research, it plays a super explanatory power. The status of Russian terminology in science has been undergone a long evolution, during which the nature, research and analysis methods of terminology went through significant changes, and it has come through multiple paradigms in its own development process, from historical comparison to structuralism to cognitivism. These paradigms constantly change and interact with each other, so that Russian terminology has made great achievements in the field of theoretical innovation and practical application. Cognitive terminology studies the generation, development and function of terms in different discourses, and helps the research of the construction of terminology. Moreover, cognitive terminology aims to establish rules for the construction of the terminology department, reveal the formation path of the scientific language embodiment of cognitive model, and form a conceptual path for analyzing and describing terms from the perspective of cognitive linguistics and nomenclature.

Medical terminolography is not only an inevitable result of medical terminology development, but also an important condition for the inheritance and development of medical terminology. Taking the medical terminolography in Russia as the starting point, this article traces its origin from a diachronic perspective, explores the background and characteristics of its development at different historical stages before the formation of lexicography and terminology theories, and thus clarify its early development venation, and to observe its evolution history.

Based on the field of humanities and social sciences in China, the discourse of disciplinary history takes recording the origin and development of local disciplinary knowledge in China as the key task, which can be said to be the foundation for establishing the identity and local value of the Chinese language discipline. Against the background of consistent inflows of Western learning, Chinese disciplines in the field of Chinese humanities and social sciences have successively gone through the phase of independent knowledge production and that of Sino-Western knowledge contact and contest, which obviously don’t parallel the route of Western discipline development. The formation and development of each Chinese discipline is attended by the diversification and systematization of Chinese terms. Tracing down the origin of indigenous terminological resources and the inflows of translated ones is a reliable way to sketch the history of the discipline. And the mining and inheritance of traditional Chinese terminology heritage in various disciplines is instrumental in the construction of the discourse on Chinese discipline history.

The terminology system of Chinese terminology science is one of the basic tasks in the construction of terminology science with Chinese characteristics. This article combs the historical evolution of the national terminology standard ISO 1087, compares and analyzes the conceptual architecture, head terms, and definitions of basic terms, and points out that the theoretical basis for the formulation of the international terminology standard is general terminology theory. The basic terms in the general terminology theory have entered the Chinese language and can be used as the basis for the establishment of the terminology system of Chinese terminology science. The unique types of language and texts, the influence of different scientific traditions, the progress of terminology standardization work, the understanding of terminology in different subject areas, and the theoretical and methodological contributions of related disciplines become restrictive factors in building a unique terminology system of Chinese terminology science.This paper believes that the terminology system and the discipline of Chinese terminology science show a trend of parallel development, and the two support each other.

Terminology is of great significance to the formation of academic discourse system. The formation of discipline system, academic system and discourse system all need terminology as carrier. Terminology system is an important part of the formation of academic discourse system. Terminology theory plays a guiding role in the formation of academic discourse system, and term translation is the key to the formation of academic discourse system. From the perspective of terminology, there are some problems in the formation of academic discourse system, such as planning needs to be improved, the relevant knowledge system and terminology system are not systematic and perfect enough, and the theoretical research of terminology to assist the formation of discourse system is insufficient. Some strategies can be taken from the level of national strategy, working organization and academic research.

In January 2012, the Interdepartmental Joint Meeting on Standardization of Foreign Language and Chinese Translation established, to coordinating the proper nouns translation works translating from foreign languages to Chinese. Basing on the Chinese translation of foreign language words recommended by the Expert Committee of the Interdepartmental Joint Meeting, this article elaborates that the work of foreign language Chinese translation norms involves multiple disciplines and industries, and spans various social linguistic life levels. In terms of research scope, formulation methods, and principles of translation selection, efforts are made to balance professionalism and sociality, playing a role in eliminating discourse barriers and ensuring the language information rights of the masses. It is an indispensable part of the construction and transmission of Chinese discourse.

Compared to natural language resources, terminology resources are specialized language resources that have been processed professionally. If we consider this processing as a naming and standardization process, then, turning terminology resources into products is the second processing. Based on exploring the logical starting point and internal mechanism of the terminology resources’ secondary processing, we think terminology products can be divided into non-profit public goods and for-profit language goods. Developing terminology resources is an inevitable requirement for achieving the overall benignization, high-quality, and sustainable development of terminology services. On this basis, the development strategy of terminology products is discussed from the perspective of Language industry, such as language products, language demand, language product consumption and supply.

The terminology system is an important part of the discourse system of philosophy and social sciences with Chinese characteristics. It is natural for the terminology work inhumanities and social sciences to serve the construction of the discourse system of philosophy and social sciences with Chinese characteristics. Taking principle for term selection as an example, this paper expounds that in order to accomplish the above task, current terminology work in humanities and social sciences in China must be improved, in particular, it is necessary to accelerate the construction of a discourse system for the approval of humanities and social sciences terminology, which is unanimously recognized by full-time staff for terminology review, subject experts who participate in humanities and social sciences terminology review, and experts in terminology theory.

Terminology construction is an important part of language planning, and there is an urgent need for terminology construction of language planning itself. The terminology construction for language planning disciplines should adhere to the principles of science, practice and policy, and should be based on the specificity of terminology in humanities, social sciences and the logic of language planning, so as to scientifically promote the collection and arrangement of terminology, the construction of conceptual system, and the elimination of ambiguous terminology, etc. We should build an open terminology system with the joint participation of the government and academia, make full use of digital means to strengthen basic construction, strengthen the concept of language service for the application of terminology, and pay attention to the translation of terminology for the construction of a discourse system with Chinese characteristics.

Sport tourism is a new multi-disciplinary specialty. At present, its concept system can not support the construction of sport tourism and can not guide the practice of sports tourism activities. Based on academic cognition and understanding analysis of the English name, the conception and the essential factors about the sport tourism, this paper uses the deductive method to analyze the logical starting point, core concept word groups, term system and basic concept of the sport tourism concept system from multiple disciplines and perspectives, and also defines and explains the definition of the concept of sport tourism.

There is often a mutually evolving relationship between the subject sememes and common sememes of terminology. The article systematically sorts and analyzes the relationship between the subject sememes and common sememes of terminology entries that have both subject sememes and common sememes. Terminology named with newly created words generally derive common sememes from subject sememes, while terminology named with ready-made words generally derive subject sememes from common sememes. On this basis, taking the Contemporary Chinese Dictionary as an example, this article discusses the way to deal with such terminology entries in the general-purpose modern Chinese dictionaries: the way of the former to deal with terminology entries that have both subject sememes and common sememes in the Contemporary Chinese Dictionary is to first interpret the subject sememe, followed by the common sememe. The way of the latter is to first interpret the common sememe, followed by the subject sememe. By sorting and analyzing the subject sememes and common sememes of terminology, we can deepen our understanding of terminology and its semantic evolution, enrich terminology theory, and also contribute to the standardization of terminology.

The diachronic translation of the proper names of terms in the Manifesto of the Communist Party is a rhetorical innovation with certain originality and epochal features. Cognitive semantic is the basic motivation for the rhetorical Chinese translation of the proper names of the terms. The process of Chinese translation of the proper names of terms in the Manifesto of the Communist Party into Chinese is also a process of forming and highlighting Chinese characteristics.

Scientific and technological terms are the foundation and prerequisite for the formation, accumulation, communication, and dissemination of scientific knowledge. Generating encyclopedic definitions for these terms is of great practical significance for the general public and Chinese learners to grasp the connotations of scientific terms and use them correctly. In this study, we propose a deep learning-based method for generating encyclopedic definitions of scientific and technological terms. We collected encyclopedic texts and expert-written term definitions from the internet to construct a dataset for scientific and technological term definitions. Based on the T5 PEGASUS pre-trained model, we fine-tuned the model to build a generative text summarization model and developed a system for generating definitions of scientific and technological terms. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed model exhibits high performance in terms of generation quality, semantic coherence, and versatility.

This paper aims to accelerate the construction of an autonomous medical healthcare terminology in China, as well as refine the subjective and original perspectives in Chinese medical and health practices. Based on the long-term theoretical and practical researches on the standardization of medical terminology, the top-level architecture and construction path of an autonomous medical healthcare terminology in China are proposed by following the construction path of combining expert teams and information technology. The construction of an autonomous medical healthcare terminology in China will not only play an important role in the clinical information standardization, but also make an effort to build a Healthy China.

Aviation technology terminology possesses a high degree of specialization, complexity, and standardization. Employing exceptional terminology management tools is essential to ensure the effective standardization of aviation technology terminology, thereby enhancing translation accuracy and consistency. Currently, modern terminology management methods based on translation technology offer greater efficiency and flexibility compared to traditional approaches. Among these, SDL Multiterm stands out as an excellent modern terminology management tool, significantly boosting the efficiency of terminology management. Thus, utilizing SDL Multiterm for aviation technology terminology management can greatly empower aviation technology translation efforts, leading to an improvement in the quality of aviation technology translation. Acquiring this capability is crucial for proficient aviation domain translators in the present landscape.

Language intelligence technologies and tools can help improve translation quality and management efficiency of terminology in large-scale translation projects. Taking the Chinese Academic Translation Project “C-E Translation of The Transformation of Rural China” as an example, we address such problems as low efficiency of manual term recognition, poor pre-translation results and low management efficiency of terms with corpus technology, CAT technology and ChatGPT. Through a term translation and management process based on Sketch Engine, POWER ECHO and ChatGPT, high-frequency term lists of the book The Transformation of Rural China are extracted and sorted out, a bilingual term database is established efficiently, and the storage, retrieval, maintenance and sharing of terms are achieved. Our results show that the precision of automatic recognition function of Sketch Engine is about 69.35%, POWER ECHO platform is relatively user-friendly and smart, and ChatGPT can quickly provide professional knowledge, background information and translation suggestions in post-editing. These results show the process can significantly improve the translation quality and management efficiency of terms.

The consistent and standardized use of terms is of great significance in writing, translation, editing, proofreading, and review of scientific research papers and academic books. To achieve fast entry of terms, fuzzy query, and free and automatic annotation in local documents, the study designs a new system of term entry, query and labeling with a self-defined term base, which has the following functions: store self-defined terms with Excel workbooks, enter terms with form controls and VBA code, search terms with dynamic array function FILTER, and link Excel and Word with VBA code to achieve batch annotation of terms in documents. This system has a self-defined term base and allows for convenient entry of terms, instant querying of terms, and batch automatic annotation of local documents without additional software or internet connection. It is suitable for use in various scenarios such as writing, translation, editing, proofreading, and review.

Based on the Communicative Theory of Terminology (TCT), we distinguished cut flowers as a separate industry from other related fields in this study. We surveyed the term application and requirement situation in the cut flower industry both in China and abroad, and described it with the aim to seek out the future direction to regulate specific terms in commercial fields. Being different from term regulation requirements of scientific fields, industrial level and linguistic level, cut flower terms showed characteristics especially in promoting market dealing efficiency and optimizing service quality. Meanwhile, when exploring how to standardize the terminology in the business field, it is necessary to consider not only the terminology needs of different markets, but also the differences in communication occasions, and find a balance between the accuracy of terminology and communication.

It is manifested in two ways: scattered basic interaction and thematic in-depth fusion, and scattered basic interaction is the main form. Thematic in-depth fusion often involves specific fields and strong bound laws and regulations or policy documents, and the terms used with interpretation often have clearer meaning and standardization, which can build a reference sample for Terminologies in Journalism and Communication Studies.
