系统性在隐喻式航空术语汉译中的延续

Continuation of Systematicity in Chinese Translation of Metaphorical Aviation Terms

摘要:

将航空术语汉译对于航空知识和技术的共享至关重要。隐喻式航空术语的汉译涉及系统性的延续,即英文术语中隐喻元素所承载的认知结构和知识体系等在汉语中系统化地保留。文章通过梳理大量典型的隐喻式航空术语,对比分析其英汉翻译,以此探寻该类术语汉译中系统性的延续机制。研究发现,为不同文化所共享的相关联的常识系统是系统性得以延续的必要前提和驱动力;无论是典型的隐喻式术语,还是隐喻思维所驱动的、隐喻属性不甚明显的术语,汉译均能系统化延续原术语背后隐喻元素所折射的拓扑特征、所承载的功能和原理等。

Abstract:

Translating aviation terms into Chinese is crucial for the sharing of aviation knowledge and technology. The translation of metaphorical aviation terms involves the continuation of systematicity, namely that the cognitive structures and knowledge systems embedded in the metaphorical elements of original English terms are systematically preserved in the Chinese language. This paper systematically analyzes a wide range of typical metaphorical aviation terms by comparing their English originals and Chinese translations to explore the mechanisms by which systematicity is preserved in translation. Our study finds that the system of associated commonplaces shared across different cultures is a precondition and driving force for the continuation of systematicity. The Chinese translation of both typical metaphorical terms and those driven by metaphorical mindset with less conspicuous metaphorical properties involves the systematical preservation of the topological features, functions, and principles reflected by the original terms’ metaphorical elements.
