摘要: “脏腑”是中医学特有的概念,现有viscera and bowels、solid organs and hollow organs、depots and palaces、yin organs and yang organs、yin viscera and yang viscera、zang organs and fu organs (或 zang-fu organs)、zang viscera and fu viscera (或zang-fu viscera) 等几对不同的译语。

Abstract: zang-fu is a pair of specific concepts in Chinese medicine, whose available translations include viscera and bowels, solid organs and hollow organs, depots and palaces, yin organs and yang organs, yin viscera and yang viscera, zang organs and fu organs (or zang-fu organs), zang viscera and fu viscera (or zang-fu viscera), etc.Based on available translations of “zang-fu” from “A Chinese-English Bilingual Corpus of Chinese Medical Classics”, we think “depots and palaces” is the best translation for “zang-fu” and worthy to be popularized. The reason is that “depots and palaces” has the metaphorical connotations of the original, reflects the thinking way of Qu-xiang Bi-lei (taking image and reasoning from analogy), and embodies the origin as well as the historical, cultural and medical values of zang-fu.
